5 Ways to prepare your property for sale

Real estate

Getting your home ready for sale can be exciting. It can also be really overwhelming and daunting. Sometimes you don’t know where to start or what items to focus on. To help you in your journey the South Coast Realty team have compiled a list of budget friendly ways to get started:

Declutter

Let’s be honest, we all have at least one cupboard or room full of items that we keep carting around for no reason right? (please tell us we aren’t the only ones!)

Declutter bench tops, shelving and walls. This allows prospective purchasers to visualize the room with their own belongings there.

Next, go room by room and use this as an opportunity to get rid of items that you no longer use or need. The best part? It’s free and you might even be able to make a quick buck by selling your used items.

First impressions

View the property from the street to assess the street appeal. Is the garden neat and tidy?

  • Prune bushes and trees
  • Water the lawn (it makes a huge difference)
  • Mow and edge the lawn
  • Clean the gutters
  • Remove weeds
  • Remove any dead plants
  • Pressure wash the driveway, external walls and pavers
  • Clean the windows

Painting

A fresh coat of paint is as good as a new haircut. What’s even better? You can do it yourself. Check out the 2022 colour predictions by Dulux – we can’t get enough of the Restore palette!

Spring clean

Start at the top and work your way down. Don’t forget light fittings, exhaust fans and air conditioning. If this seems too much of a task, enlist the services of a professional cleaner. The South Coast Stay holiday team swear by Wellify Property Care.

Throw rugs and cushions are cost effective ways to update a room

Go shopping (you don’t have to tell us twice!)

Update quilt covers and cushions to brighten up tired bedrooms. Throw rugs and cushions are a cheap investment to get some great photos – which is what entices people in.
